Qualifications:
- Valid State of Ohio principal’s certification or license.
- Master’s degree from accredited college or university.
- Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.
- Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-01 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Computer skills and experience with state assessment portals, student information systems, and data entry.
- Willingness to work with students, staff and community members.
- Prior related work experience required and above average evaluations.
- Willingness to participate in future training.
- Willingness to follow assigned work schedule.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and precautions for the work environment.
- Knowledge of Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession.
- Knowledge of Ohio's Learning Standards and State Tests.
- Demonstrated sincere desire to aid all students, staff and the community.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Skilled in curriculum, teacher evaluation, and community relations. (OTES 2.0 and OSCES training preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, students and the public.
- Experience working with a culturally diverse student population is preferred.
- Knowledge of Ohio law as it pertains to student discipline and attendance.
- Willingness to work in school sponsored and related activities.
- Alternative to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.
General Description:
The Assistant Principal of Discipline works cooperatively with the principal to maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment. Primary responsibilities include the consistent administration of district policy and building initiatives to ensure staff and student safety. This position assists the principal by carrying out duties to direct and manage the daily activities of staff and students. The assistant principal will be familiar with all phases of the school program in accordance with the Board of Education and Ohio School Law and Standards.
Essential Functions:
- Is responsible for implementing, enforcing and reviewing school policies as they relate to student discipline, including office referrals and suspensions.
- Routinely confers with building principal and other assistants regarding all serious safety concerns and expulsions.
- Ensures that discipline is applied consistently and equally across the entire student body.
- Participates in any related Threat Assessments, and provides relevant data to help determine the level of risk.
- Formulates and implements student attendance procedures in accordance with state laws.
- Plans and promotes the district's PBIS initiative.
- Conducts teacher observations and evaluations.
- Participates on a regular basis in team meetings.
- Holds parent conferences regarding student discipline, attendance problems, and other classroom issues.
- Assists with school climate initiatives.
- Assists in the development of the master schedule.
- Orients new teachers to district/school policies and procedures.
- Assists with supervision of events and other athletic duties assigned by principal.
- Participates in various school and district committees.
- Promotes good public relations with the community.
- Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
- Helps maintain safety and security in the building.
- Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e. website, email, voicemail, etc.) daily.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
- Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (ie: PO 3122.01 and PO 3170)
- Reports absences into the online reporting system.
- Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.
- Conducts other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional interaction among unruly children.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of 15-30 pounds.
- Repetitive hand motion (e.g. computer keyboard)
- Frequent interruptions of duties by students, visitors, staff and/or telephone.
