Lead Barista



Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Barista to oversee daily café and bakery operations at Zermatt Resort. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, exceptional customer service, and a passion for coffee and food preparation. This role is responsible for supervising barista staff, ensuring high-quality beverage and bakery service, and maintaining a welcoming and efficient environment. The Lead Barista plays a key role in team development, product consistency, and overall guest satisfaction while supporting both café and bakery functions.







Duties

• Lead and supervise daily café and bakery operations, including shift scheduling, workflow coordination, and team support

• Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, espresso drinks, and specialty beverages according to established standards

• Assist with baking, food preparation, and serving bakery items, ensuring freshness and presentation standards

• Provide exceptional guest service by engaging with customers, answering questions, and resolving concerns professionally

• Train, mentor, and support barista and bakery staff to ensure consistency, efficiency, and product knowledge

• Monitor inventory levels for coffee, food, and supplies; assist with ordering and stock rotation

• Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of café and kitchen areas in compliance with health and safety regulations

• Operate and oversee POS systems, handle transactions accurately, and support daily cash reconciliation

• Maintain quality control of all beverages and baked goods, ensuring consistency with resort standards

• Assist in developing seasonal drink menus, promotions, and bakery offerings

• Support hiring efforts, including interviewing and onboarding new team members

• Collaborate with kitchen, front desk, and management teams to ensure seamless guest experiences

• Maintain equipment, including espresso machines and kitchen tools, and coordinate maintenance as needed

• Uphold resort policies, brand standards, and service expectations







Qualifications

• Previous experience as a barista with demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibilities

• Strong knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, espresso equipment, and beverage presentation

• Must have current Utah Food Handlers Permit-



-Experience in food preparation, baking, or kitchen operations preferred

• Excellent customer service and communication skills

• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment

• Familiarity with POS systems, cash handling, and basic inventory management

• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

• Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and health regulations

• Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, weekends, and holidays

• Creative mindset with interest in menu development and specialty offerings

• Previous experience in a café, bakery, or resort environment preferred

• Ability to maintain professionalism and a positive attitude under pressure







Physical Requirements & Workplace Safety

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds (e.g., supply boxes, coffee bags)

• Frequent use of hands and arms for beverage preparation, baking, and operating equipment

• Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with exposure to heat, steam, and kitchen equipment

• Adherence to all food safety and workplace safety guidelines, including proper handling of hot surfaces and sharp tools

• Ability to respond quickly in busy or emergency situations and follow safety procedures



The Resort functions seven days a week and may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. All employees, both management and hourly, must realize that, at times, it may be necessary to adjust schedules to meet business demands.
