As an In-House Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in maintaining instructional continuity and a positive learning environment when classroom teachers are absent. This position requires flexibility, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to engage students across a range of developmental levels from Pre-K through Grade 8.

You will implement prepared lesson plans, support students’ academic progress, and work closely with faculty and staff to uphold the school’s standards of excellence.

• Valid CT teaching certification or BA degree in elementary education (or related field) or approval as a substitute teacher by Region One.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to various classroom settings and student needs.

• Supervise and manage classrooms effectively when teachers are absent
• Understand and follow lesson plans
• Use technology as directed by the teacher or administrator
• Understand and apply health and safety protocols
• Support students' academic and social-emotional development
• Collaborate effectively with staff

Working Conditions:  

• School setting serving students in PK through grade 8 
• Daily assignments may vary across grade levels and subject areas
• Requires flexibility, adaptability, and a student-first mindset

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing or seated) for extended periods
• Ability to move about the classroom and school building
• Must be able to lift and carry instructional materials (up to 25 lbs)
• Ability to supervise students during transitions, recess, and lunch periods (indoor/outdoor)
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and provide supervision

Employment Requirements:

• Criminal background and Department of Children and Families (DCF) records checks
• Participation in Region One Professional Development Training 

Salary/Hours/Work Year:

• Salary: $135/day 
• Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
• Work Year:  Will follow the 2025-2026 school calendar (August 2024-June 2025); see the attached.
