Starting Salary Scale: $55,000 - $70,000  



Calendar Year: 220 days  



Must work all scheduled calendar days in Colorado.

Purpose of Job: 



The Public Relations Specialist serves as a statewide communications leader responsible for developing, writing, and distributing earned media, strengthening GOAL High School’s public reputation, and ensuring consistent, mission aligned messaging. This position supports the Information Services (IS) Department and all six regional leadership teams. 



The Specialist advances GOAL’s strategic communications goals including brand protection, community relations, statewide storytelling, accessibility, and transparent communication aligned with IS Department standards of clarity, equity, student centered service, and professionalism. At GOAL, public relations centers on building strong, in person community relationships that expand brand awareness and foster positive word of mouth. This is achieved through active engagement, meaningful partnerships, thoughtful participation in events, purposeful sponsorships, and creating opportunities for students to connect with and serve their local communities.

Public Relations & Earned Media 





  • Develop, write, and distribute statewide press releases. 







  • Collect earned media in collaboration with the Social Media Generalist 







  • Maintain strong relationships with Colorado media outlets. 







  • Monitor news cycles and identify proactive statewide PR opportunities. 







  • Ensure all public content adheres to GOAL’s communication expectations (plain language, equity, professionalism)  





Statewide & Regional Public Relations Support 





  • Support six regional leadership teams with local PR strategies and community engagement. 







  • Utilize regional PR budgets to promote enrollment, brand awareness, and community relationships. 







  • Attend regional events as needed to support local earned media and public relations visibility.





Inter Departmental Collaboration 





  • Coordinate strategic messaging with the Communications Director and Social Media Generalist 







  • Work with IS and Communications creative staff to execute PR campaigns. 







  • Follow IS Department expectations for communication (responsiveness, documentation, professionalism) 







  • Maintain metrics and KPI reporting, and any additional PR specific reporting as directed by the Chief Information Officer

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  





  • Must reside in Colorado. 







  • Must have a valid driver's license. 





Education: 





  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (required) 







  • APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) preferred. 





Experience:  





  • 1-3 years of PR or communications experience 







  • Recent college graduates may show work study in industry, capstone, and final graduate projects to demonstrate required experience. 







  • Demonstrated experience developing press releases, media kits, and public statements. 







  • Strong written communication skills and mastery of AP style 







  • Ability to collaborate across regions with diverse staff, leadership, and communities. 







  • Two years of experience working in a high school with at risk youth preferred. 





 



Other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:  





  • Solid background and work history demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.  







  • Current or previous employment history in positions where a high degree of English language skills is necessary. The ability to communicate in bilingual situations is a plus.  







  • Proof of solid work experience in positions requires the ability to diffuse and manage stressful situations and the skill needed to manage conflicts effectively.  







  • Operate at a minimum on a proficient level regarding standard office equipment and office programs requiring frequent use of spreadsheets, word documents, Internet, and databases.  







  • Show a background in applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills with little or no supervision.  







  • Demonstrated history of positions requiring a high degree of organizational skills, managing multiple priorities/tasks with frequent interruptions, and maintaining confidentiality.
