About the Department
The Goochland County department of General Services is accepting applications for a Facilities Technician to perform routine, semi-skilled buildings and grounds maintenance work for County buildings.
Position Duties
• Performs routine repair, maintenance, and custodial services needed for County facilities and buildings.
• Cleans, paints, and performs basic maintenance tasks on all parks, concession stands, restrooms, and indoor department facilities.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks related to all indoor and outdoor facilities including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
• Interprets building blueprints, related schematics, and diagrams to perform routine maintenance.
• Inspects and maintains all building systems, such as HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical.
• Interprets and operates building automation that controls building systems and security.
• Installs and repairs Ballasts, Lighting, and electrical wiring.
• Operates mechanical systems such as chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units, and heaters. • Performs periodic testing of diesel generator equipment and fire protection systems.
• Completes routine maintenance tasks such as machinery cleaning, plumbing repairs, lighting/filter replacement, and painting.
• Cleans gutters.
• Delivers, assembles, and relocates office furniture as needed.
• Interacts with staff, contractors, and others to complete projects.
• Performs special event preparation and breakdown, and street sign repair and installation.
• Performs other assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and building construction.
• Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and manuals.
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
• Ability to operate computerized equipment desired.
• Ability to utilize asset management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to use or to learn how to use a variety of equipment and tools needed to make repairs and maintain equipment.
• Ability to operate a variety building maintenance equipment and tools.
• Ability to perform physical labor in extreme temperatures and conditions for extended periods of time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is heavy work, which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move object. Tasks may require the ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: : balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, bending, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, stooping, handling, and grasping.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors and requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate citizens, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
Other Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Additional training in a technical program preferred;
• Experience in the use of power and hand tools;
• Prior working experience preferred;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
• Valid State of Virginia Driver’s License with a driving record that meets HR Policy requirements.
