Position Criteria
- Valid State of Iowa teaching license, required.
- Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD or ID, preferred
- Instructional Strattegist I with a willingness to pursue additional special education licensure based on building and student need (if only Strat I)
- Previous classroom teaching experience, preferred.
Performance Criteria:
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with parents, AEA, teachers, support staff, and families; demonstrates clear and effective oral and written communication.
- Experience working with diverse elementary learners, including students with autism and students exhibiting challenging behaviors; applies knowledge of the functions of behavior to develop and implement effective behavior intervention plans.
- Commitment to Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS); CPI certification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to provide instruction in both pull-out special education settings and inclusive/general education environments using collaborative practices.
- Demonstrates effective leadership by directing classroom associates and support staff with clear expectations and positive leadership skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish effective routines and procedures that promote a positive, structured learning environment.
- Demonstrates understanding and implementation of:
- Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students
- Uses research-based instructional strategies, including gradual release and workshop models, to support differentiation and integration of skills and concepts.
- Demonstrates strong assessment skills and understanding, including:
- Ability to analyze and apply data to drive instruction
- Understanding and implementation of alternate assessments aligned to student needs
- Experience using technology and integrating 21st Century Skills and Universal Constructs into instruction.
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional growth through collaboration with instructional coaches, engagement in professional learning, and goal setting.
- Actively supports and communicates the district’s mission and vision.
- Flexible, motivated, and student-centered, with a strong commitment to supporting all learners.
