Description
Under the supervision of Health and Well Being, the Water Exercise Instructor is charged with effectively and safely conducting Water Exercise programs in accordance with the following policies established by the South Shore YMCA while also providing a high level of member service.

CORE EXPECTATIONS:
1. PROGRAM EXECUTION DEVELOPMENT
- Assure that programs start and end on time, and are set up appropriately.
- Ensure that programs are taught with safety being the utmost priority and are conducted with high quality instruction.
- Immediately handle any questions or concerns. Refer as necessary to the Health and Well Being Director.
- Stay current with new techniques, and teaching strategies.
- Assist in the development of new water exercise classes or incorporate new exercises or routines within existing classes.
- Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, policies or direct people to Health and Well Being.
- Be familiar with entire water exercise program so that they can assist when needed or provide direction to members looking for other opportunities.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies in a calm and professional manner.
- Maintain relevant certifications and professional knowledge to provide consistently evolving and engaging classes.
- Provide program feedback from members to the Health and Well Being Director.
2. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Work with the staff to ensure equipment and pool space are available at the proper times.
- Work with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect.
- Every water aerobics instructor has the responsibility of reviewing all guidelines for emergency procedures to ensure a prompt and appropriate response to any incident.
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
3. MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Provides welcoming member service, including actively seeking member/participant interaction and feedback
- Builds relationships with members, responds to inquiries and solves problems.
- Creates a safe and supportive community environment by creating personal connections with those enrolled in classes.
- Assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.
- Positively and professionally represent the YMCA when dealing with inquiries or concerns, forwarding concerns to the Health and Well Being Director immediately.
- Educate members of all policies and procedures of the YMCA and the Health and Well Being Department
- Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies or direct people to Health and Well Being Director.
- Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled.
4. FACILITY MANAGEMENT
- Advise Health and Well Being Director or Aquatic Supervisor staff of any facility issues which impacts class satisfaction or safety.
5. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
- Support volunteers and their daily functions.

Requirements
- Previous experience in the Water Exercise field.
- Professional certification in Water Fitness Instruction
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- A keen eye for details, be aware of the actions and safety of participants at all times.
- The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and participants are important to this position.
- The ability to deliver great member service and a high level of enthusiasm are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
