    John Hersey High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher to join our dynamic team.     Our ideal candidate possesses a strong academic background in both Biology and Chemistry. We are seeking a versatile educator who is passionate about inquiry-based learning and laboratory safety across multiple scientific disciplines. You should be a collaborative team player, ready to design engaging, hands-on lessons that help students master complex concepts and develop critical scientific literacy.

    Specific Qualifications:

    • State of Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with a Senior HS endorsement in Biology/Chemistry.
    • EL endorsement preferred.
    • Must be willing to teach all levels of science, including Skills and/or LEP (Limited English Proficiency).
    • Must have outstanding training and/or experiences as an educator.
    • Must have a strong background in science (and if applicable, math) instruction and a standards driven curriculum.
    • Training and experience in implementing the NGSS and creating an NGSS classroom experience is preferred.
    • Must be able and willing to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
    • Must work effectively within our Professional Learning Team model, which means working with teams of teachers to develop creative instructional strategies and resources, based on best practices, which enable our students to exceed building, district, and state goals and standards.
    • Must be well-versed in a wide variety of assessment practices that maximize student learning (formative, summative, selected response, extended written response, performance based.)
    • Must use a variety of instructional methods & practices to meet individual student needs.
    • Must provide multiple and varied opportunities for students to achieve daily objectives.
    • It is an expectation that the teacher will utilize research-based instructional strategies for increasing student achievement and strive to become a distinguished educator.
    • Establish and maintain a professional growth plan.
    • Possess and continue to develop technology skills that drive instruction.
    • Communicate with students and parents regarding student progress.
    • Coordinate and share instructional lessons with other team members.
    • Assist in implementation of school-wide improvement plan.
    • Complete administrative duties in a timely fashion.
    • Perform other tasks assigned by building administration or designee.
    • Support building extracurricular activities as a coach or sponsor.
