Job Description

A Sports Anchor/Multimedia Journalist at News 9 helps drive the Ideal Team Player culture.

Job Summary: Not every sports job comes with championship expectations. This one does. You won’t just cover games; you’ll help define the next great era of Oklahoma sports. From the Oklahoma City Thunder pushing toward an NBA dynasty behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, to the Oklahoma Sooners competing for national championships, this role puts you where the biggest stories are as they’re unfolding. We’re looking for a Sports Anchor/Multimedia Journalist who wants to tell the story of Oklahoma sports as it’s happening. This role offers unprecedented access, visibility, and impact few local sports jobs can match. You’ll work alongside elite broadcasters, including the Voice of the Sooners, Sports Director Toby Rowland, and anchor sportscasts that consistently draw high viewership and engagement across TV, digital, and social platforms.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Anchor sports segments in high-profile newscasts, delivering compelling, confident, and engaging on-air performances.

  • Cover major Oklahoma sports programs, including the OKC Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners (home and away football games).

  • Report, write, shoot, edit, and produce sports content for television, digital platforms, and social media.

  • Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, and key sports figures.

  • Create multimedia content including highlights, feature packages, live shots, and breaking sports coverage.

  • Collaborate with the Sports Director, producers, and newsroom leadership to shape daily and long-term sports coverage.

  • Use social media to amplify coverage, connect with fans, and extend the reach of our dominant sports brand.

  • Stay current on local, national, and collegiate sports news and trends.

  • Represent the station professionally at games, events, and community functions.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.

Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, or special projects/events. This position is not eligible to work remotely.
