Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent serves as a Physician (Hospitalist) at the Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation, Tuba City, Arizona, which involves performance of medical care services for adult patients in the hospital. Examines, diagnoses, and treats hospitalized patients. Manages patients through the continuum of hospital care; orders treatments, tests, and consults which specialty physicians and primary care physician where appropriate.


Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Medical Degree, MD or DO
  • Completion of a three (3) year residency program in Internal Medicine
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine

License:

Must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any state within the United States, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico

Credentialing:

Additional credentialing/privileging qualifications required for membership to the Medical Staff

       Other Skills and Abilities:

A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.  All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

Physical:

Must be able to walk several hundred yards quickly, stand, sit, bend, maintain balance, as well as occasionally climb, kneel, crouch, twist and reach. Must write well, hear well (for cardiac examinations) and see well for complete diagnostic skills. Must have ability of far vision, near vision, color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, hearing overhead page and telephone use. Must be able to continually lift up to 10lbs and occasionally push and pull up to 10lbs. Must have ability of simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation of both hands as well as use of keyboard.

Mental:

Must be able to perform night call on a regular basis and handle the stresses of rural medicine with critically ill patients. Must be able to continuously cope with high levels of stress, make decisions under high pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way, concentrate, handle high degree of flexibility, handle multiple priorities in stressful situation, work alone, demonstrate high degree of patience, adapt to shift work and work in areas that are close and crowded. Must accept flexible schedule to meet unit needs.

Environmental:

May continually be exposed to infectious diseases.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. The position will consist of full-time in-patient care. Hospitalist schedules vary depending on departmental needs and may include a nocturnist option or a combination of daytime rounding and weekend coverage followed by more limited nocturnist duties.
  2. The hospitalist must have an excellent grasp of general internal medicine and critical care medicine, including ventilator management, and preferably, central line placement and use.
  3. The hospitalist shall have particular and proven expertise in the inpatient care of patients with end stage renal disease, cardiac disease (including acute myocardial infarction), infectious diseases, and patients needing peri-operative management and medical consultation.
  4. Handwriting must be legible and must be willing to use an Electronic Health Record.
  5. Prepare appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care; dictate discharge summaries and correspondence concerning patients under his/her care to physicians, hospitals and other individuals and facilities.
  6. Refer patients to appropriate contracted medical or other government facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided here. Coordinate and integrate information obtained into the ongoing health care program at TCRHCC and assure the provision of timely follow-up care as required.
  7. Work closely with allied health professionals (i.e., Community Health Nurse, Social Workers, Case Managers, Health Educator, etc.) to utilize and coordinate the services of other health care professionals in the management of the patient’s medical, psychological and social problems.
  8. Responsible for electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role.
  9. Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
  10. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
  11. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
