Job Title:


High School Girls Cross Country  / Track & Field Assistant Coach


Reports To:


Head Cross Country Coach / Athletic Director


Position Summary:


The Assistant Girls Cross Country / Track & Field Coach supports the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a competitive and educational cross country program. This role focuses on student-athlete skill development, physical conditioning, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic accountability.




Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist in planning and implementing daily practices, workouts, and training programs

  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team events

  • Help teach proper running techniques, conditioning, pacing, and race strategy

  • Support strength, endurance, and injury prevention programs

  • Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and character development

  • Monitor athlete academic progress and encourage academic success

  • Assist with meet preparation, including course inspection, warm-ups, and logistics

  • Help maintain equipment and ensure a safe training environment

  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school staff, and administration

  • Enforce school, district, and athletic department policies

  • Attend required meetings, practices, and competitions




Qualifications:



  • Previous coaching or competitive running experience preferred

  • Knowledge of cross country training principles and conditioning techniques

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Ability to motivate and mentor high school student-athletes

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Must meet all district and state coaching requirements




Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to run, jog, or demonstrate drills

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods




Work Schedule:



  • Seasonal position (Fall)

  • Practices typically held after school hours

  • Meets may occur evenings and weekends




Additional Duties:



  • Assist with team building activities and team culture development

  • Support off-season conditioning programs if applicable

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director
