Safety Technician

Bengal Crane & Transportation (BCR Division) – Geismar, LA + Gulf Coast Travel

Position Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Schedule: As Needed (Days, Overtime, Turnarounds, Callouts)
Pay: Starting at $28/hour (higher based on experience & certifications)
Truck Allowance: $500/month
Cell Phone Allowance: $25/month

Position Overview

The Safety Technician is a field-first role responsible for supporting daily safety operations across Bengal crane, rigging, and transportation projects.

You'll work directly with crews and client sites to identify hazards, enforce compliance, and ensure safe execution of work in high-risk environments.

This role requires someone comfortable in the field - not behind a desk.


Key Responsibilities

Field Safety Oversight

  • Provide on-site safety support during:
    • Crane lifts
    • Rigging operations
    • Heavy haul / transport activities
  • Identify hazards and enforce company + client safety standards
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist

👉 OSHA requires that unsafe lifting operations be stopped until hazards are corrected


Inspections & Compliance

  • Conduct jobsite audits, walkdowns, and safety observations
  • Review and support:
    • JSAs (Job Safety Analyses)
    • Pre-task plans
    • Lift plans
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safety equipment

Permitting & Site Requirements

  • Issue and verify permits:
    • Confined Space
    • Hot Work
    • Lockout/Tagout
    • Fall Protection

Training & Communication

  • Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings
  • Support new hire safety orientation
  • Communicate directly with:
    • Operators
    • Drivers
    • Riggers
    • Client safety teams

Incident & Reporting

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage
  • Document findings and corrective actions
  • Maintain safety logs and documentation

Fleet & DOT Support

  • Assist with fleet compliance (non-driver role but exposure helps):
    • Equipment inspections
    • Safety documentation
    • General compliance support

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years safety experience in one of the following:
    • Industrial / Petrochemical
    • Construction
    • Crane / Rigging
    • Heavy haul / transportation
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards (1910 / 1926)
  • Strong communication skills (field-facing role)
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Valid Driver's License (MVR required – Light Truck)
  • Must pass:
    • Drug screen
    • Background check
    • DISA

Required Certifications

  • OSHA Certification
  • NCCER (preferred / required per req)
  • Security Passport
  • TWIC strongly preferred (based on site list)

Equipment & PPE Provided

Full safety gear issued including:

  • Hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, FR clothing
  • Respirators, monitors (H2S / gas detection)
  • Reflective gear, hearing protection
  • Company uniforms & Bengal-branded apparel

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Climb equipment, trailers, and jobsite structures
  • Stand/walk for extended periods
  • Wear full PPE including respirator
