Trucordia is seeking an Enterprise Architect who can do something rare: think at the board level and build at the engineering level. This is not an advisory or governance-only role. You will own the technology strategy and be equally comfortable presenting a three-year roadmap to the executive team on Monday and pairing with an engineer on a cloud architecture decision on Wednesday.
Reporting directly to the CIO and serving as a full peer on the Technology Leadership Team, you will set the architectural vision for a fast-growing, PE-backed insurance brokerage spanning a national corporate HQ and ~200 branch offices, two lines of business (P&C and Employee Benefits), and an aggressive AI and digital transformation agenda.
We've deliberately written this role for a player-coach. Someone whose credibility comes from having built real systems, not just diagrammed them. If your career peak was producing architecture frameworks that others had to figure out how to execute, this isn't the right fit. If you thrive on closing the loop from strategy to shipped product, read on.
Set the Strategy and Own the Execution
- Define and continuously evolve Trucordia's enterprise technology blueprint, reference architectures, and multi-year roadmaps across cloud, data, AI, security, and application domains.
- Translate business strategy into actionable, sequenced technology investment decisions. Not just recommendations, but owned plans with timelines and success criteria.
- Drive the AI and digital transformation agenda end-to-end: from framing the opportunity at the board level to ensuring production systems actually deliver the expected business value.
- Evaluate build vs. buy vs. partner decisions with a disciplined financial lens, working closely with business stakeholders, vendors, and the CIO.
Go Deep Across the Stack
- Bring hands-on technical depth across cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS), enterprise networking and Zero Trust security, data platforms, integration patterns, and AI/ML—enough to review designs, challenge engineers, and unblock implementation teams.
- Establish architecture standards and guardrails that teams will be eager to adopt because they're practical and well-reasoned, not because they're mandated.
- Conduct rigorous technical assessments of platforms, vendors, and emerging technologies, including hands-on proof-of-concept work where warranted.
- Bridge the gap between infrastructure, application development, security, and data teams, functioning as the connective tissue across all technical disciplines.
Lead Across the Business
- Serve as a senior technology leader and active participant on the IT Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy beyond your architecture domain.
- Partner with business leaders in P&C, Employee Benefits, Operations, Finance, and HR to surface technology opportunities and solve real business problems — not just field requirements.
- Simplify and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences including the executive team and board; create clarity where others create confusion.
- Mentor and elevate technical teams through sharing your architectural thinking, making others better, and building a culture of engineering excellence.
Shape the AI & Innovation Agenda
- Own Trucordia's AI strategy in partnership with the CIO, covering enterprise productivity (M365 Copilot, AI coding tools), embedded platform AI, and proprietary capability development (recommendation engines, quote comparison, RFP automation, proposal generation).
- Identify and evaluate AI and technology co-development opportunities with vendors and startup partners; structure engagements that protect Trucordia's IP and strategic interests.
- Build the architecture for Trucordia's digital distribution platform, including conversational AI, carrier API integrations, and real-time data pipelines.
Technical Depth (Required)
- 10+ years of progressive technology experience; 5+ years in an enterprise architecture, principal engineering, or equivalent senior technical leadership role.
- Hands-on experience designing and delivering cloud-native architectures (Azure preferred); compute, networking, identity, storage, and platform services.
- Working knowledge of Zero Trust security models, modern identity and access management (Entra ID / AAD), SASE/SSE patterns, and endpoint security.
- Strong data architecture background: data platforms, lakes/warehouses (e.g., Snowflake), integration patterns, and API-first design.
- Meaningful exposure to AI/ML architectures; LLM integration patterns, RAG, vector stores, agent frameworks.
- Experience with integration architecture: APIs, event-driven systems, iPaaS, and SaaS platform ecosystems.
- Ability to read and write code; you don't need to be the lead developer, but you need to be technically credible at the code and infrastructure level.
Leadership & Business Acumen (Required)
- Demonstrated track record of driving strategic technology initiatives from concept through production.
- Ability to align and get buy-in from senior stakeholders across IT and business functions without direct authority.
- Experience operating at the executive level, presenting to C-suite and board audiences, participating in strategic planning, and managing competing priorities.
- Comfort with financial trade-off analysis: TCO modeling, build vs. buy, and investment prioritization in a resource-constrained environment.
- Experience in multi-entity, distributed enterprise environments; insurance, financial services, or PE-backed company experience is a plus.
What Sets You Apart
- You've shipped things. Your proudest career moments are production systems and business outcomes, not architecture diagrams.
- You're decisive under ambiguity. You make a call, explain your reasoning, and adjust when the facts change.
- You close loops. When you own something, it gets done, you're not handing off and hoping for the best.
- You make the people around you better. Senior engineers respect your technical judgment; business leaders trust your advice.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience considered for exceptional candidates.
- Architecture certifications (TOGAF, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, CISSP, etc.) are a plus, but demonstrated outcomes outweigh credentials.
