CUSD 303 is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a High School SPED Teacher at the Compass Academy for the 26-27 SY.

The mission of Compass Academy, a public high school program of choice, is to ignite creativity and innovation, inspire personalized learning, and prepare students for multiple paths to success. Compass Academy offers competency-based education, interdisciplinary seminars, and personalized and project-based learning to students.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Illinois Professional Educator's License with LBS1 Endorsement for grades 9-12
  • Additional secondary subject are preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred

The mission of Compass Academy, a public high school
program of choice, is to ignite creativity and innovation,
inspire personalized learning, and prepare students for
multiple paths to success. Compass Academy offers
competency-based education, interdisciplinary seminars, and
personalized and project-based learning to students.
Key pedagogical skills include using competency-based education models, classroom
differentiation, integration of instructional technology, instruction through the lens of social-
emotional learning, design of inclusive classrooms, and instruction centered on project-based
learning.
The candidate will be a member of building-level teams and will meet weekly with these teams for
work centered on developing and aligning instruction and performance tasks with competencies in
a collaborative, backward-design philosophy. Staff members at Compass Academy will participate
in up to five additional days of professional development prior to the start of the 2022-23 academic
year and will be compensated for this work at the contractual rate.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Collaboratively plan inquiry-based courses that address designated school competencies
and meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
● Modify and adapt lessons and instruction as needed to meet individual students’ IEP
goals, implementing research-based teaching strategies that engage all students,
acknowledging a range of student abilities and cultural backgrounds.
● Create an environment conducive to learning and motivate students through effective
communication and frequent, specific, and constructive feedback.
● Plan for and guide the learning process toward the mastery of competencies, and
establish clear objectives/targets for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly
communicated to or determined with students.
● Modify, adapt, and/or conduct assessments to evaluate student progress.

Job Description
● Through team meetings and IEP conferences, review student progress via assessments,
maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student
success and growth.
● Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records of student progress and data necessary
for IEP reports, goals, and evaluations as required by law and district policy.
● Act as an advisor to students within the advisory program, providing guidance and
support in student course selection, development of Student Success Plans, and social-
emotional learning.
● Collaborate with colleagues, students, community members, and/or parents on a regular
basis, and as requested by the administration.
● Participate on curriculum, personnel, policy, or professional development committees
related to the educational program.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff.
