Job Description

About the Department

The City of Marysville is seeking a dedicated Water Distribution Operator to join our team. The mission of Marysville's Division of Water is to provide reliable drinking water that meets or exceeds Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) standards. Weare committed to excellent customer service, effective infrastructure management for present and future needs, and minimizing economic impact on our customers.

The Water Distribution Operator is responsible for ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of our water services. This position performs general maintenance, operation, and equipment duties for the city's water distribution system. This a full-time, non-exempt position working a 5-day, 8-hour shift schedule and is subject to overtime and emergency call-ins.

Position Duties

  • Install, troubleshoot, and program Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
  • Perform meter installs, testing, repairs, underground water locates, disconnects, and reconnects.
  • Inspect, install, operate, maintain, and repair water distribution systems and the city reservoir.
  • Conduct mandated water quality monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide daily customer service related to water distribution.
  • Work rotating stand-by schedules for work-related emergencies.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Operate various machinery including dump trucks, pipe locators, tapping machines, air hammers, backhoes, high lifts, ditch pumps, and front-end loaders.
  • Visually inspect water lines for proper installation and investigate leaks.
  • Ensure public safety and safe working conditions through inspections and adherence to procedures.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints.
  • Maintain accurate systems and records.
  • Perform maintenance and upkeep on the water reservoir to ensure EPA compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in public works operations and maintenance. Supervisory or municipal experience is a plus.
  • Must obtain a Class 1 Ohio EPA Water Distribution Certification (or superseding Treatment certification) within two (2) years of appointment.
  • Must obtain a valid Class “A” commercial driver's license within twelve (12) months of appointment.
  • Excellent English-speaking skills.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and G Suite.

Starting pay rate is $27.30 per hour with a robust benefits package that starts on the first day of employment.
