Job Description

Job Goal:


To identify children with speech, language, hearing, or other communication disorders and to plan and implement an effective speech/language therapy program for those children.


 


Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills, and/or experience):



  • Master’s degree in Speech/Language Therapy

  • Meet all Louisiana Department of Education certification requirements for school based speech-language pathologists

  • Preferred Qualification: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assist with the identification of children with speech, language, and/or hearing problems that need rehabilitative speech, language, and or hearing therapy.

    • Provide guidance to teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech, language, and hearing impairments



  • Interpret diagnostic results. Write appropriate and accurate reports of results.

  • Select appropriate form and informal testing instruments and procedures for screening speech and language skills of referred children.

  • Conduct or participate in the evaluation and placement in programs and dismissal/exit out of programs for speech, language, and/or hearing impaired children in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education and district guidelines.

  • Design and provide a therapeutic individualized education program (IEP) to meet the needs of children in accordance with state and district guidelines.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff members to implement therapy procedures that will improve student performance in the classroom.

  • Monitor ongoing performance of children and access progress at regular intervals and report process at designated times.

  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

  • Light: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently; involves frequent sitting.
