    Elementary Classroom Teacher

     

    Position Summary

    The 1st Grade Teacher is responsible for fostering a positive and engaging learning environment where all students develop the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes necessary to become successful individuals and citizens. The teacher plans and delivers effective instruction, evaluates student progress, manages classroom behavior, and engages in continuous professional growth.

    Reporting Structure

    Reports to the Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
    • Valid State of Maine teaching certification
    • Appropriate training and preparation for elementary-level instruction

    Key Responsibilities

    Instruction & Planning

    • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals
    • Establish clear objectives for lessons and projects
    • Use appropriate instructional methods and materials
    • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs

    Classroom Environment & Management

    • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
    • Establish and maintain fair classroom rules and procedures
    • Encourage active student participation

    Assessment & Student Support

    • Regularly assess and monitor student progress
    • Provide required progress reports
    • Identify learning challenges and collaborate with specialists

    Professional Responsibilities

    • Participate in professional development opportunities
    • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees
    • Collaborate with colleagues and administration

    Operations & Compliance

    • Maintain accurate and complete student records
    • Follow district policies and procedures
    • Ensure student safety and proper use of school resources
    • Prepare plans and materials for substitute teachers

    Family & Community Engagement

    • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed
    • Be available outside instructional hours under reasonable terms
    • Utilize community resources to support learning

    Additional Duties

    • Perform other duties as assigned by administration

    Terms of Employment

    Salary, work year, and working conditions are determined by the RSU 57 School Board.

    Evaluation

    Performance is evaluated in accordance with School Board policies.

    Physical Demands

    • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting
    • Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling
