Job Summary
Responsible for a variety of support duties at the nursing station which includes notifying laboratory and radiology of tests, answering telephones, addressing call lights, monitoring the EMT radio, monitoring the cardiac monitor, maintaining various logs, keeping the EMS resource site up to date, aid in patient discharge or transfers by copying selected parts of the chart, making sure all patients have an identification bracelet, scheduling outpatient procedures when appropriate, scheduling follow up appointments for discharging patients, working closely with floor staff, maintaining order and neatness at the nurses station and providing miscellaneous support duties to the Charge Nurse to provide organized, quality patient care. Assisting on the floor as a CNA when needed, or ER.
Essential Job Functions
· Secretarial and support duties as described above to the nursing team and providers.
· Responsible for the smooth transition of shift change to the early morning activities such as phone calls, physician orders transcriptions, and lab requisitions.
· Responsible for keeping the charge nurse informed of new physician orders as well as having the charge nurse co-sign all orders transcribed.
· During the shift, works under the supervision of the charge nurse.
· Works closely with the patient, patient family, and visitors.
· Works closely with all hospital departments and staff to facilitate patient care.
· Participate in mandatory training on Cerner and UKG (Time & Attendance) and demonstrate basic competency in the functions applicable to this role.
· Required to maintain all standards of behavior as defined by SHC’s core values.
· Required to always maintain a professional attitude
· Position requires access to highly confidential information.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
· High School Diploma preferred.
· Current CNA certification or actively enrolled in an Idaho approved CNA training program and working under the supervision of a licensed RN.
· Basic knowledge of medical procedures and treatments required.
· One year’s experience with electronic medical records system preferred.
· Maintains current BLS certification.
Skills/Competencies
· Must demonstrate a high degree of competence in the EHR system to fulfill duties as required.
· Must demonstrate the ability to react and communicate appropriately to all patients, staff, and visitors.
