Office of Residence Life and Community Standards – Franklin Pierce University
The Front Desk Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors within the Office of Residence Life and Community Standards. This role requires strong customer service skills, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment. Key responsibilities include greeting and assisting visitors, answering phone calls, and responding to general inquiries in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
The Front Desk Assistant supports students by helping schedule meetings with professional staff and providing accurate information about housing and community standards processes. In addition to administrative duties, the role contributes to residence hall operations by assisting with hall management tasks such as posting and removing flyers and maintaining organized, up-to-date public spaces.
The assistant is also responsible for submitting work orders as needed to address maintenance concerns in a timely manner. The Front Desk Assistant plays an active role in general office management and organizational projects within the residence life office and across the Division of Student Affairs. This includes supporting initiatives that improve efficiency, maintaining organized records and materials, and assisting with cross-departmental projects as needed. Effective communication is essential, as the Front Desk Assistant regularly collaborates with professional staff to ensure smooth office operations and consistent support for the residential community. This position offers valuable experience in customer service, office administration, and student support within a higher education setting.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at Franklin Pierce University
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and visitors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated attention to detail and reliability in completing assigned duties
- Comfort with basic office technology (phone systems, email, scheduling tools, and general computer applications)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism
- Willingness to collaborate with professional staff and contribute to team and divisional projects
- Previous experience in customer service, office work, or student leadership roles is preferred but not required
- A sense of humor (preferred)
