    Position Title: School Bus Diesel Mechanic
    Location: North West Hendricks Schools – Transportation Department
    Hours: Full-Time (12-month position)
    Reports To: Director of Transportation

     

    Job Summary:

     

    North West Hendricks Schools is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our transportation team. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of school buses and other district vehicles to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with all applicable regulations.

     

     

     

     

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     
    • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel and gasoline-powered school buses and district vehicles.
       

    • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and technical issues.
       

    • Inspect vehicles according to state and federal regulations; ensure compliance with safety standards.
       

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
       

    • Respond to road calls and provide emergency repairs as needed.
       

    • Assist with fleet management and scheduling of routine service.
       

    • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the shop area and tools.
       

    • Collaborate with the Director of Transportation to prioritize work orders and ensure fleet readiness.

    • Perform all other duties as assigned by Superintendent or his/her designee

     

     

     

     

     

    Qualifications:

     
    • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred.
       

    • Valid CDL (Class B with School Bus and Passenger endorsements) or ability to obtain.
       

    • ASE certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
       

    • Minimum of two years of experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance.
       

    • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, and general vehicle diagnostics.
       

    • Ability to lift heavy objects, perform physical tasks, and work in various weather conditions.
       

    • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
