Fennville High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to lead our Varsity Boys Basketball program. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of the game, and a commitment to fostering the personal and athletic development of student-athletes. POSITION DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
To be in charge of the Boys Basketball program grades K-12 to help each participating student
grow in character, in the classroom and on the court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain a positive working relationship with the Athletic Director.
• Develop a cohesive coaching staff.
• Understand and uphold the standards of Fennville Athletics, as outlined in coaches’
meetings and the Athletic Handbook.
• Create structure so that individuals learn the skills necessary to excel in Boys Basketball.
• Be fully invested in all levels of the program from varsity down to the rec level.
• Organize and structure developmental practices in season.
• Maintain and improve the facility, oversee the safety of athletes at all times at the facility.
• Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
• Model and enforce sportsmanship at all times. Establish disciplinary actions when these
standards are not met.
• Maintain understanding of rules, rule interpretations, procedures, coaching techniques
and generally information about all aspects of the sport.
• Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in Boys
Basketball and is consistent with establishing criteria for eligibility in competition.
• Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
• Keep records of necessary attendance forms, medical records, and similar paperwork.
• Inventory and care for all equipment.
• Be able to communicate through various avenues including but not limited to; through
the school, social media, print media.
• Conduct a parent meeting prior to the start of each season.
• Organizes a team banquet at the end of each season.
• Completes other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, Superintendent, or
his/her designee.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises all assistant and sub-varsity coaches including, interscholastic sports through the
Recreation Department.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

EDUCATION and /or EXPERIENCE:
Preferred teaching certificate or a degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in
coaching. Being trained/certified in first aid and CPR, or willingness to be certified required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability
to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, proportions,
percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out furnished in written, oral or
diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in
working with staff and school administration. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and
theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
students, staff, and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and
written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of
Education policies. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally the employee will sit and run. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the

performing the duties of this job. The employee occasionally will be required to lift and/or push
up to 50 lbs.
The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and occasionally being
able to see objects/persons at a distance. While performing the duties of the job the employee
frequently is required to hear a conversation in a quiet as well as a noisy environment and be able
to tell where the sound is coming from. The employee must be able to communicate with the
team in order to give directions.
