Purpose Statement
The job of Recreation Specialist - Educational Behavior Services is done for the purpose/s of providing a variety of complex support services to Educational Behavior programs within the Capital Region ESD 113 service region and assisting with implementation of academic and behavioral program goals and objectives.
Essential Functions
Student Assessment and Intervention Design Assesses students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs and designs recreation interventions that align with positive behavior support strategies, for the purpose of promoting skill development and behavioral growth.
Program Event Planning Assists with planning and executing program-wide events, including holidays, special events, and activities that celebrate diversity, for the purpose of fostering an inclusive and positive school culture.
Team Collaboration Collaborates as a part of a multidisciplinary team to provide input on student progress during social-emotional and recreational activities, for the purpose of contributing to individualized student programming.
Group Activity Facilitation Facilitates recreational and behavior-focused group activities using individualized behavioral program data and goals, for the purpose of fostering positive peer interactions and student engagement.
Attendance Record Maintenance Maintains accurate attendance records for all activities and programs led, for the purpose of ensuring accountability and tracking student participation.
Progress Monitoring and Documentation Monitors and documents student progress through comprehensive data collection methods, for the purpose of guiding instructional and behavioral programming decisions.
Team Meeting Participation Participates in team meetings across programs, for the purpose of ensuring consistent and cohesive student-centered practices.
Recreational Event Implementation Plans and implements program-wide recreational events that promote social-emotional learning, for the purpose of enhancing students' social skills and overall well-being.
Program Support Provides program support as needed for the purpose of meeting program requirements for staffing, training, documentation, and distribution of resources.
Behavior Support System Development Supports the development and implementation of positive behavior support systems and intervention programs within Educational Behavior Service frameworks, for the purpose of creating a supportive and structured learning environment.
Other Functions
Personnel Assistance Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Related Duties Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge Required Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; standardized accounting and bookkeeping principles; office processes and procedures; basic computer operations; local community agencies and resources; district services and programs; knowledge of the Olympic Academy program.
Skills Required Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records/case management; and utilizing group presentation skills; solving problems; and assessment of student support options.
Abilities Required Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate.
Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups in a nonjudgmental manner; working flexible hours; displaying patience and a sense of humor; understanding verbal input and responding quickly; maintaining confidentiality; and willing to travel within the ESD 113 service region as designated by the Director.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Education and Experience Requirements
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education: Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job related area.
Equivalency: Experience and/or training in positive behavior support and/or behavior analysis preferred
Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a related field.
