JOB DESCRIPTION



 SUBSTITUTE TEACHER



 



General Description:  This position reports to the school principal.  The substitute teacher follows the classroom teacher’s lesson plans and maintains oversight of his or her students.

Duties and Responsibilities





Spiritual





  • Models a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ in speech, actions, attitudes




  • Actively involved in church




  • Follows Matthew 18 principle in dealing with interpersonal conflict




  • Encourages students to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith





General





  • Takes attendance each hour




  • Follows teacher lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students




  • Monitors student behavior in and out of the classroom, including in the hallways, break areas,  and cafeteria




  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment




  • Fulfills any teacher duties (break duty, lunch duty, etc.)




  • Document any student issues and leaves notes on engagement and behavior




  • Interacts with students and staff to maintain order and provide assistance when needed




  • Maintains confidentiality with all school and student information





 



Non-instructional and Professional





  • Adheres to all policies and procedures governing the operation of the school




  • Proactively communicates with administrators




  • Documents arrival and departure 




  • Maintains professional dress and appearance




  • Maintains punctuality 




  • Uses standard English in written and oral communication







  • Demonstrates the character qualities of courtesy, friendliness, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, and perseverance




  • Meets everyday stress with emotional stability




  • Responds respectfully and is loyal to constituted authority




  • Represents the school in a favorable and professional manner to its constituency
