Description

The Inventory Specialist plays a vital role in supporting Wright-Hennepin’s operations by managing material warehousing activities and ensuring our teams have the materials they need, when they need them. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels while upholding a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment.


The ideal candidate brings strong warehousing and computer skills, a commitment to learning, and a passion for doing things right the first time. Success in this position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage tasks accurately and timely in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.


 This is a union position in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Pay and Benefits are in alignment with union contract. 

 

Hours: This position will work during daytime hours Monday-Friday 

Pay: $45.73 per hour

Location: This is a full-time on-site position located at our company headquarters in Rockford, Minn. Rockford is located 15 miles west of Plymouth on Hwy 55. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouses and pole yards.
  • Maintain adequate and accurate inventory levels for assigned materials.
  • Initiate purchase orders for assigned inventory and equipment as needed.
  • Receive and process shipments in accordance with the inventory procedure manual; deliver non-warehouse packages promptly to designated recipients.
  • Issue and pre-check out materials following inventory procedure guidelines.
  • Process completed work orders and verify materials used and salvaged in accordance with inventory procedures.
  • Utilize the Cooperative’s electronic work management tools—including system mapping, time entry, and staking/workforce management software—to support crew scheduling, interpret engineering designs, and document work activity.
  • Disassemble, restock, or properly dispose of salvaged materials as appropriate.
  • Monitor scrap material and coordinate the sale of surplus or junk materials.
  • Recommend use of salvaged or aged materials to the Lead Foreman when appropriate to reduce inventory investment and material obsolescence.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials to job sites as requested.
  • Coordinate pickup of materials from suppliers or other cooperatives as needed.
  • Complete physical inventory counts as outlined in the inventory procedure manual or as requested by the Lead Foreman.
  • Provide same-day customer service for materials located in warehouses and pole yards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized hazardous waste room and ensure hazardous materials remain in compliance under the direction of the Safety Coordinator.
  • Maintain responsibility for assigned vehicles and warehouse equipment.
  • Assist with special projects and additional duties as requested.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all warehouses and pole yards.
  • Adhere to all Cooperative policies, procedures, and safety rules; properly use all required safety equipment.
  • Maintain familiarity with field personnel roles, procedures, and how they interface with this position.
  • Stay current on industry practices and trends and understand their impact on the position and the Cooperative.
  • Strongly consider participation in the Cooperative’s Annual Meeting.


Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a warehouse environment working with inventory

Licenses/Certificates

  • Must have or have the ability to obtain a forklift certification

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This position requires the ability to safely perform physical tasks associated with warehouse, material handling, vehicle operation, and outdoor work. The role involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, and the use of tools and equipment in both indoor and outdoor environments. Candidates must be able to perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.


Physical Demands

  • Lifting: Regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are handled several times per week, typically with assistance from another employee or appropriate equipment.
  • Reaching: Frequently reach below shoulder height for up to two-thirds of the workday; occasionally reach at or above shoulder height as required.
  • Twisting / Rotating: Perform occasional twisting and rotational movements involving the hips, shoulders, and neck throughout the workday.
  • Handling / Dexterity: Continuous hand and finger dexterity required to safely operate hand tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Stooping / Bending / Squatting: Frequently stoop, bend, and squat while performing job duties.
  • Kneeling: Occasionally kneel for short periods as tasks require.

Standing, Walking, and Sitting

  • Stand for approximately 60% of the workday.
  • Walk for approximately 30% of the workday; outdoor work may involve uneven terrain and exposure to snow, ice, mud, and other weather conditions.
  • Sit for approximately 20% of the workday while completing administrative, documentation, or computer-based work.

Communication (Talking / Hearing)

  • Ability to clearly communicate with coworkers while working independently or as part of a team.
  • Hearing is required to receive instructions, direction, and safety information from supervisors and team members.
  • Speaking and hearing are essential for maintaining safety when operating or working around vehicles, tools, and other potentially hazardous equipment.

Vision

  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions, labels, and documentation accurately.
  • Good visual acuity is required, including the ability to distinguish colors to properly identify materials, equipment, and markings.

Foot Controls & Equipment Operation

  • Continuous use of foot controls is required when operating vehicles and equipment such as trucks, pickup trucks, forklifts, and similar machinery.
  • Safe and effective operation of foot-controlled equipment is an essential function of the position.
