About the Department

Marysville is a safe, friendly hometown committed to community pride, healthy families, well-planned neighborhoods, and the hub of mobility and technology at the heart of the U.S. 33 Smart Corridor.  As a growing community with over 230 dedicated full-time employees, the City offers a collaborative work culture. As the seat of Union County and a key player in the "Beta District," Marysville offers a unique professional landscape where historical charm and strategic engineering coexist. We operate under a Council/Manager form of government that prioritizes Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork.

The City of Marysville is seeking a senior manager and leader to serve as the Public Service Director. This critical executive role is responsible for the overall oversight of all Public Service Divisions, which include Fleet, Parks, Recreation & Events, Streets, Stormwater/Sanitation, and Facilities

Position Duties

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the City Manager and Council, developing long- and short-range maintenance schedules for critical city assets. Develop and manage annual operating budgets for all divisions and plan large-scale infrastructure investments.

  • Directly manage division heads and Public Service Clerks. Take responsibility for the full employment lifecycle, including hiring, training, mentoring, and, when necessary, correcting performance or handling disciplinary actions.

  • Ensure the safety and longevity of the City’s physical assets, including streets, infrastructure, and fleet equipment. Coordinate emergency storm damage repairs and snow removal. Oversee the design and maintenance of parks, cemeteries, and community green spaces, as well as leisure and recreational programs.

  • Serve as the "public face" of the city's infrastructure, handling sensitive inquiries, emergency service calls, and public complaints with diplomacy and a focus on resolution.

  • Act as the primary liaison before the City Council, boards, committees, and local businesses.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a highly ethical and strategic leader who possesses extensive experience in municipal operations and a deep commitment to community service. This public-facing role requires creative vision, strong financial acumen, excellent team-building skills, and a dedication to maintaining a high standard of customer service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor degree in public administration, public works management, or a related field is required. A master's degree is highly preferred

  • Licensure: A valid Ohio driver's license with a good driving record is required.

  • Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of extensive, progressively responsible experience in public sector management and administrative experience, preferably at the local government level.

Other Qualifications

The City of Marysville offers a competitive salary package within the $90,000- $130,000 pay range and a generous benefits package, including:

  • Membership in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision,  and Life insurance.

  • Vacation, Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and Paid Holidays(12 per year).

  • Additional Benefits: Deferred Compensation (457) options, Longevity Pay (starting at 3 years of service), prior public service credit, and more.
