    Title: Science Teacher SY26/27                                      Location:  Prairie Hills Junior High 

    Employment Type:  Full Time                                         Work Days: 10-month position

    FSLA:  Non-Exempt                                                       Reports to: Building Principal                                                                 

     

    Job Summary: 

    The Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based science instruction to junior high school students in grades 6�8. The teacher will create a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for Science (NGSS-aligned), while supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. The Science Teacher will collaborate with colleagues, families, and district staff to promote student achievement and foster a positive school culture.

    Education, Certification, and Licensure:

    • Experience teaching middle school or junior high science (Grades 6�8)
    • Experience implementing inquiry-based, hands-on science instruction
    • Experience using student data to drive instruction and improve student outcomes
    • Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL) and students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
    • Experience integrating technology into classroom instruction
    • Experience collaborating in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

     Experience:

    • Experience teaching middle school or junior high science (Grades 6�8)

     Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities: 

    • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science lessons using best instructional practices
    • Implement NGSS-aligned curriculum focusing on inquiry, experimentation, and real-world application
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and ELL students
    • Integrate literacy, math, and technology into science instruction
    • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress
    • Analyze student data to inform instruction and improve achievement
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and grades
    • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
    • Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior
    • Ensure adherence to district discipline policies and procedures

    Terms of Employment:

     

    Salary

    $50,727 - $64,233

    Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms

    Work Environment:

    Work is primarily performed in a school setting, including classrooms, counseling offices, and meeting rooms. Frequent collaboration with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community agencies. Must be able to respond quickly to crisis situations within the school environment. Moderate physical activity may be required (e.g., accompanying students, home visits, or supervision duties). Work schedule follows the academic calendar with occasional evening meetings or parent events.
