BASIC FUNCTIONS:




  • Operate the Carlton County Transfer Station to ensure that services are accessible during operating hours. Monitor, screen and sort solid waste. Operate heavy motorized equipment for monitoring, screening and sorting solid waste. Coordinate with subcontractors and solid waste haulers. Deliver solid waste from Transfer Station to St. Louis County Regional Landfill in Virginia, MN and SKB Cloquet-Shamrock Environmental Landfill in Cloquet, MN. Work cooperatively with customers and co-workers.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Waste Screening Administration




  • Screen waste to determine acceptability and disposal or recycling destination. Inform the public/businesses of acceptability/destination.

  • Visually identify solid waste type and recyclable materials.

  • Inspect and determine proper handling and disposal of all types of waste materials accepted at the facility, including properly sorting; storage; monitoring and correction of unacceptable materials disposal; special handling of hazardous items; clean-up of spilled waste; removal of materials by subcontractors.

  • Sort solid waste and recycling using heavy motorized equipment.

  • Perform daily inspections of the grounds, disposal or recycling containers, and material stockpiles.

  • Maintain prescribed records on types and quantities/volumes of materials received, stored and removed from the facility. Notify subcontractors at appropriate times for removal of materials from the site.

  • Explain disposal rules and procedures to the public and enforce compliance.

  • Notify administrator of issues or disrepair at disposal site.

  • Complete daily log entries.

  • Maintain a clean office and workspace.



Equipment Operation




  • Operate a compactor and grapple to sort and compact waste for transportation subcontractor.

  • Utilize a skid steer with forklift, bucket and broom attachment to sort waste, perform snow and debris removal, and transport waste on pallets.

  • Operate tandem axle semi-truck and walking floor transfer trailers to collect and deliver solid waste to landfill.

  • Drive safely and efficiently in various weather conditions while adhering to traffic laws.

  • Inspect equipment each day for safety or maintenance issues. Perform minor maintenance of equipment as required such as greasing, oil changes, hose and fitting repair, and routine servicing.

  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and equipment used during operations.

  • Complete manual snow and debris removal.
