Position Summary

The Engineering Student Success
Center is seeking to fill a position for their 2026 Engineering Summer Academy
(ESA), on-campus, STEM camps (June 1 – July 31).  Selected high school
students are invited to UNM’s School of Engineering to learn and explore STEM-related
topics as well as careers in engineering.  The Academic Coordinator will
serve to prepare and provide support as a team member with the following
responsibilities beginning May 21, 2026:

  • Plan & develop: event calendars, curriculum,
    teaching aides, presentations and hands-on activities;
  • Assist Program Coordinator in facilitation of STEM
    classroom presentations and activities;
  • Requisition materials and supplies for instruction and
    hands-on activities;
  • Communicate with staff to provide updates and obtain
    feedback on student participation;
  • Lead group discussions in an open forum to provide
    overview and clarify educational objectives;
  • Guide and accompany ESA student participants on field
    trips and designated venues;
  • Assist in ensuring proper student conduct in the
    classroom and during all activities;
  • Provide guidance and assistance with activities,
    projects, and other assigned duties;
  • Promote and stimulate program
    participation;
  • Comply and enforce UNM’s Safety & Security policies
    & procedures at all times;
  • On an occasional basis, may drive students from campus
    to/from scheduled field trips;
  • Compile data and generate reports on outcomes;
  • Knowledge of college-level academic environments and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience working with and instructing adolescents and youths
  • Strong interest in promoting STEM education
  • Possess a valid New Mexico driver's license
  • Pass mandatory background check
