Job Description

Come join our life-changing team building hope, resilience, and well-being as a Residential Behavioral Health Practitioner in a Youth Residential Treatment Facility!

Shift Details: FT - 8-hour shifts, 40 hours/week - Days & Evenings. Tuesdays from 8:30am-11:30am for team meetings required.

Schedule: 

  • AM Shift: 6:00am-2:00pm
  • PM Shift: 2:00pm-10:00pm

Compensation: $24.50/hr starting, plus $1/hr shift differential for evening shift

About the job:

Provide clinically informed, trauma-responsive therapeutic care to youth in a residential setting. Actively implement treatment interventions, support emotional and behavioral regulation, and contribute to a safe, structure, and person-centered milieu under the direction of Licensed Mental Health Professionals.

Essentials:

Direct Care & Therapeutic Support

  • Provide therapeutic supervision to ensure resident safety and well-being, including on-to-one supervision when indicated.
  • Monitor each resident's behavior, emotional presentation, and physical needs.
  • Implement individualized treatment plan interventions within the milieu and during daily routines, groups, and crises.
  • Coach youth in coping, regulation, conflict resolution, and skill use aligned with evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-resident ratios.

Therapeutic Milieu & Program Facilitation

  • Create and maintain a structured, trauma-informed environment.
  • Build therapeutic and professional relationships with residents.
  • Model health communication, boundaries, and relational engagement.
  • Reinforce treatment goals during daily interactions.
  • Lead or co-facilitate therapeutic and skill-building groups
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment, conducting routine safety checks, reinforcing program guidelines, monitoring resident activity, and complying with licensing and agency standards.

Behavioral Support & Crisis Intervention

  • Use trauma-informed de-escalation techniques during emotional or behavioral escalations, intervening safely and appropriately.
  • Follow agency policies related to rapid response and physical intervention procedures.
  • Complete incident documentation accurately and within required timelines.

Medication & Health Related Support

  • When authorized, assist with or administer medications per policy and training.
  • Monitor residents for side effects or health concerns.
  • Support residents in attending medical or therapeutic appointments.

Documentation & Team Collaboration

  • Complete required documentation, such as daily logs, progress notes, group notes, behavior tracking, and incident reports in accordance with agency policy and timelines.
  • Communicate updates clearly during shift changes and report observations or concerns promptly to supervisors.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, consultations, and supervision.

Continuous Learning & Practice Fidelity

  • Actively participate in initial and ongoing training to stay current with best practices, agency policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of therapeutic approaches, behavior support strategies, and safety procedures relevant to youth served.
  • Uphold evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered practices in all interactions.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must meet Minnesota Behavioral Health Practitioner criteria per MN Statute 245I.04, including one of the following:
    • Completed college coursework in behavioral sciences or a related field and at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience providing services to youth with mental health needs. OR
    • At least 4,000 hours of supervised experience providing direct services to youth with mental health needs. OR
    • Master's or other Graduate Degree in behavioral sciences or a related field.
    • Ability to work effectively in an emotionally demanding environment, demonstrating calm, self-regulation, and professionalism when supporting youth with complex needs and behaviors.
