About the Department
The purpose of this position is to provide clerical and customer service support for the City's revenue collection functions. Job duties consist of related clerical and customer service duties. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of City operations. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.
Position Duties
The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.
FINANCIAL DUTIES (55%)
Receives and processes sales tax deposits.
Accepts deposits from various City departments.
Accepts payments for special sanitation pick-ups.
Balances and prepares deposits.
BUSINESS LICENSE DUTIES (20%)
Processes new and renewed business licenses, including new alcohol license applications.
Assists Revenue Officer in collecting past due business licenses.
Assists Revenue Officer in looking into social media outlets for new businesses operating within the City.
CLERICAL AND CUSTOMER SERVICE DUTIES (15%)
Answers a multi-line telephone; provides information and assistance.
Communicates with customers and co-workers via phone, written communication, email, and in person.
Scans, copies, faxes, and emails documents.
Prepares end-of-the-month reports.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES (10%)
Receives and distributes mail.
Assists Revenue Officer in collecting past due sales tax.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
Two (2) years' of experience in administrative support with an emphasis on finance, accounting, tax/revenue processing, and customer service.
Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a specialty certification through the Alabama Municipal Revenues Officers Association.
Knowledge of Adobe and MS Excel.
