Description

The anticipated start date for this position is mid-July, 2026.  


Under the supervision of the Pottawatomie County Management Assistant of Operations, the Mini-Bus Driver is a non-exempt position under FLSA.  The primary goal of this position is to provide transportation for the general public.  Employee should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and have a firm knowledge of vehicle maintenance and record keeping abilities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


• Provides safe transportation to the citizens of Pottawatomie County;

• Collects bus fares, and deposits funds to the County Treasurer;

• Assists passengers with loading and unloading;

• Maintains bus in a clean and orderly manner;

• Maintains an accurate record of money donated;

• Provides statistical data regarding rider participation.


MARGINAL FUNCTIONS


• Maintains a monthly mileage and fuel log;

• Prepares daily travel and monthly reports;

•      Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.


Requirements

Experience:  One to three years of similar or related experience is required.  Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months to one year of employment.


Education:  A high school diploma or GED is required.  A valid Kansas Driver’s License required, valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License preferred.  Be trained in or able to be trained in emergency first aid or CPR.  This position is subject to Motor Vehicle background check.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  A basic mechanical aptitude and a working knowledge of mathematics is required.  Employee must be able to operate up to a 15-passenger bus, and some office equipment including computers and copiers.  Excellent personal relation skills and communication skills are required.   


Problem Solving:  Problem solving is a factor in this position.  Problems this employee may encounter include dealing with hazardous road conditions and managing mechanical breakdowns.


Decision Making:  Decision-making is involved in this position.  Decisions this employee may encounter include determining if weather conditions allow for safe passage.


Supervision:  This position works independently with little supervision from the Pottawatomie County Management Assistant of Operations, and performs no supervisory duties.


Financial Accountability:  Employee is responsible for the safe operation of departmental equipment, does handle cash on a daily basis, but does not participate in the annual budget process.


Personal Relations:  Continual contact with the general public is required.  Frequent contact with co-workers and supervisory personnel is expected.
