SUMMARY: Responsible for instructing academic functional classes to students in Special Education programs in coordination with current curriculum and within the framework of District and state content standards.

SUMMARY: Responsible for instructing academic functional classes to students in Special Education
programs in coordination with current curriculum and within the framework of District and state content
standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the
knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals

• Develop, plan, prepare, and implement:
o Course content, format, structure, and schedule.
o Classroom materials and learning activities.
o Scheduling of staff and meetings in compliance with IEP’s.
o Individualized Education Plan goals and objectives.
• Instruct students in large, small, and/or one-on-one situations across curriculum to students with a
wide range of skills.
• Organize and facilitate schedules of students and paraprofessionals and assist in the development
of master schedule
• Assist in the supervision and direction of special education paraprofessionals.
• Create a classroom environment which maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior
and wellbeing of students in the classroom and all educational settings, and administer discipline
when appropriate
• Monitor student learning and progress to:
o Evaluate success of the educational approaches, specialized instruction, supports, and
services.
o Adapt support as needed.
o Maintain documentation pertinent to academic, social, and emotional progress and needs of
students
• Communicate students’ progress and needs with parents/guardians and other staff as needed.
• Collaborate:
o With teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and
improve
o student outcomes.
o With colleagues in team and building-based meetings and discussions
• Demonstrate a commitment to:
o Understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity.
o Include and engage families in the student’s education.
o Support all District policies, procedures, and expectations.
o Provide personal and professional excellence.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree with proper teaching licensure program required.
• Experience in an educational setting with students with special needs preferred
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
• Criminal background check
• Valid Colorado Driver’s License
• Valid Colorado teaching license with proper endorsement required.
• CPR and First Aid preferred
