Findlay City Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered English Language Learner (ELL)/TESOL teacher to support students in grades K-5. In this role, you will help multilingual learners develop the academic language skills needed to succeed in middle school and beyond, while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.
Under the leadership of the building principal, you will collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to provide targeted language instruction, monitor student progress, and ensure equitable access to curriculum and school opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Provide direct English language instruction to students in grades 6–8 using research-based TESOL strategies.
- Implement district-approved curriculum aligned with state English language proficiency standards.
- Support students’ development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing across academic content areas.
- Collaborate with core content teachers to adapt instruction and materials for multilingual learners.
- Develop and implement individualized language support plans based on assessment data.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor language growth and adjust instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, language proficiency levels, and required documentation.
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and goals.
- Support a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes cultural awareness and belonging.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements related to English learner services.
Additional Duties
- Assist with language proficiency testing and required reporting.
- Support school staff with strategies and resources for working with English learners.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or district administration.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of second language acquisition and TESOL instructional strategies.
- Ability to differentiate instruction based on language proficiency levels.
- Skill in collaborating with content-area teachers to support language development across subjects.
- Proficiency with assessment tools and progress monitoring for English learners.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Cultural competence and commitment to inclusive practices.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Ohio teaching license with TESOL/ELL endorsement or certification.
- Elementary teaching experience preferred.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred but not required.
