- Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for the department
- Evaluate the curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the department based on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes as needed
- Maintain a resource library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies relevant to the department
- Introduce teachers to methods, materials, and instructional strategies that, through research, have proven to increase student achievement.
- Vertically and horizontally align classroom norms across all settings
- Evaluate and manage systems for campuses to use when they are recommending a student transfer to another campus for a specific special education classroom
- Assist the teachers in developing effective methods to monitor the progress or all students, and offer suggestions for interventions where needed
- Assist teachers in developing sound, defensible procedures for assessing student progress and for reporting that progress to students and parents in a timely manner

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for oversight of special education programs and services on campuses. Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring proper implementation of IEP's and serving as a resource to campus staff students and families. The coordinator collaborates with district administrators, teachers, and support staff to provide high quality education programs for students with disabilities.
Provide curriculum leadership and support classroom teaching to ensure an aligned and articulated instructional program for special education. Provide support to campus special education teachers on best practices, in order to raise the academic level and effectiveness of the district's overall curricular program
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject assigned Special Education certification
T-TESS certification preferred
Master's Degree preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Ability to work well with people, demonstrate and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate with advocates on appropriate development and implementation of IEP
Ability to design, train, implement, and check for fidelity of IEP writing
Knowledge and experience implementing best practices in instruction in a variety of special education settings
Knowledge and experience using a variety of assessment tools and analyzing student data

Experience:
Five years of teaching experience in subject area assigned
Experience teaching multiple grade levels preferred
