About the Department
Campus Police Officer provides public safety, security, traffic control, and fire prevention on the Spartanburg Community College campuses during assigned shifts. Enforces all State and local laws as well as College rules and regulations. Minimizes the loss of State and personal property due to fire, vandalism, or theft.
Monitors campus activity continuously. Investigates accidents, complaints, disturbances and any suspicious activity. Prepares written reports.
Maintains traffic control, safety, and organization for campus parking. Assists in preparing the campus for special events and supports contracted security officers with special event parking.
Inspects campus buildings for hazards to students, employees, visitors. Reports unsafe conditions and recommends corrective actions.
Assists contracted security officers upon Campus Police Chief request. Locks and/or unlocks campus buildings and requested areas as needed.
Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls by assisting with building evacuations, rendering first aid to injured individuals, dispersing crowds, and rerouting spectators around disturbances or fires.
Performs other duties relating to public safety and security, as assigned by the Campus Police Chief and authorized college personnel.
Position Duties
A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. Must be 21 years of age and have a certification as a police officer by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy i/a/w/ 23-6-430 of the code of Laws of S.C. 1976.
Minimum Qualifications
Law enforcement experience in a college setting.

Employee will be required to wear uniform and equipment, must be neat in appearance and maintain a professional image. The employee may be required to work rotating shifts as needed and or work overtime. The employee must occasionally travel for training. Employee must be physically capable of performing job functions and duties. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instruction to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; vision acuity is required for depth perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. This worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Occasional night and/or weekend hours may be required for scheduled events.
