Job Summary

The Safety Specialist supports safe and efficient execution across multiple active construction projects by conducting field inspections, verifying high risk work controls, assisting supervisors with practical hazard solutions, and maintaining alignment with company and client safety expectations. This role serves as the primary field safety representative for assigned project portfolios and works proactively with project teams to identify risks early, improve work planning, and resolve safety concerns before they impact production.

Safety Specialists are expected to challenge unsafe conditions constructively, question ineffective practices, and recommend workable alternatives that allow operations to continue safely whenever possible. The role emphasizes engagement, coaching, and problem solving in the field rather than enforcement from the sidelines.

Within this organization, safety is not a stop work function of last resort, it is a planning and execution partner. Safety Specialists are expected to help teams complete work the right way the first time by integrating hazard controls into how projects are built, not reacting after problems appear.

Work stoppage authority remains essential and must be exercised when imminent danger exists; however, the primary expectation of this role is to anticipate risk, remove barriers to safe execution, and support supervisors in maintaining progress without compromising standards.

Success in this role requires credibility with crews, sound technical judgment, and the ability to translate safety requirements into practical field decisions that improve both compliance and productivity.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide multi-site safety oversight across concurrent projects
  • Develop and implement Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)
  • Prioritize site coverage based on risk level and work phase
  • Enforce hazard controls (fall protection, excavation, confined space, lifting, energized work, equipment, hot work, temporary power)
  • Lead JHA/AHA quality and consistency across projects
  • Conduct incident investigations and identify root causes/trends
  • Ensure timely closure of corrective actions
  • Manage subcontractor safety compliance and qualifications
  • Support client audits, safety walks, and compliance reviews
  • Maintain safety documentation, reporting, and trend analysis

Requirements

  • 3-5 years minimum construction safety experience
  • Ability to interpret 29 CFR 1926
  • Incident investigation experience
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • JHA development capability
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint

Licenses/Certifications

  • OSHA 30Certification Required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain client and federal installation access credentials, including successful completion of background investigations required for restricted-site entry
  • CHST Certified preferred or actively pursuing
  • Valid Florida Driver's License is required
  • Incumbent must be insurable at all times by CES insurance carrier
