Description

  

BASIC FUNCTIONS: A Preventative Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine facility maintenance to prevent possible mechanical failure. This requires knowledge on how to read electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic prints for troubleshooting purposes. The person may be required to cut, weld, tap, mill and/or lathe metal parts to fix mechanical components. This person may work on special projects such as moving equipment, fabrication of components, machine installations or machine upgrades. This person will help maintain a safe, clean, efficient work environment. Must be able to work with people and machines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Identify, clarify machine problems.

2. Analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose problems.

3. Obtain needed resources for each job.

4. Fix problem using selected methods.

5. Monitor and/or operate machine.

6. Document and feedback information.

7. Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) on delegated equipment.

8. Use maintenance management software to help predict and prevent future breakdown.

9. Fix problem using selected methods.

10. Operate monitor/cleanup.

11. Document/feedback.

Requirements

  MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Requires special knowledge in a particular field. Knowledge is normally acquired through two years of college, vocational or technical school training resulting in an associate degree or equivalent.

2. Two years of previous manufacturing experience preferred.

3. Ability to read materials to interpret and analyze content, such as Electrical, Pneumatic and Hydraulic prints.

4. Ability to compose or modify text to explain or describe worked performed to be monitored in Maintenance Management Software.

5. Ability to perform mathematics used to setup and operate machines and equipment.

6. Ability to solve problems that are frequent and unique. Work is governed by broad directions, objectives and policies. Because conditions change frequently, the incumbent must use creativity and judgement. There is considerable latitude in the decisions made.

7. Ability to make decisions and/or final recommendations which affect multiple departments or a division and may, on occasion, affect the entire organization.

8. Ability to complete tasks using latitude to decide what is to be done and when the work is to be completed. Results are reviewed for overall adherence to established objectives, policies or budgets.

9. Ability to supervise work within a unit. Provides recommendations on performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions to a higher-level manager.

10. Ability to communicate to explain or interpret business issues where some precedent exists (e.g., selling services, advising customers, dealing with vendors on non-standard issues, dealing with outside professionals, etc.).
