Job Description

Title: Upper School History Teacher (Seventh Grade Social Studies: World Geography)

Job Status: Beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, Full-time, Exempt, 10-month

Salary Range: $62,758 to $104,952 annually based on degree and experience


Founded in 1863 by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, ‘Iolani School is an Episcopal day and boarding school in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi enrolling approximately 2,200 students on its K-12, 25-acre urban campus.

Job Summary:


We seek an experienced educator who is passionate, collaborative, and reflective to join our History Department to teach Seventh Grade Social Studies (World Geography).


The position requires active participation in our vibrant learning community and an educator who will inspire and support our students. The role also requires ongoing collaboration with teaching teams at the course and departmental level. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of World Geography, strong instructional practice, and a genuine love of teaching within a mission-driven independent school environment.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in History or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of demonstrated teaching experience in History in grades 7-12. 

  • A demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and to design lessons which make use of a wide variety of learning methods.

  • Ability to design and execute curriculum as part of a teaching team.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and proficiency in educational technology.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters with or without correction.

  • Full range of head, neck, and back movement; unrestricted ability to bend knees, raise arms above the head, and to move hands, fingers, and wrists.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds without difficulty.

  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for sustained periods of time.

  • Must successfully pass fingerprint background check and provide TB clearance due to working in proximity to children.
