About the Department

The Assistant Director of Clinical Affairs & Simulation Education supports Burrell College’s Master of Health Science in Anesthesia (MHSA) Program by overseeing clinical education operations, coordinating simulation-based learning, and contributing to curricular quality and student preparation. This role combines administrative oversight, instructional responsibilities, and active collaboration with students, faculty, and clinical partners to ensure high-quality experiential learning and program compliance. 

  • This position is Exempt. 
  • This position reports to the Program Director/CAO of the MHSA Program.

Position Duties

Clinical Affairs Leadership

  • Coordinate and manage clinical rotations, schedules, site assignments, and student placement logistics.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Burrell College and clinical site partners.
  • Support maintenance of affiliation agreements and ensure site compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor student clinical performance and collaborate with the Program Director to address concerns or remediation needs.
  • Recruit, onboard, and support clinical preceptors.
  • Ensure students meet clinical competencies, case minimums, and evaluation milestones.
  • Conduct site visits and support continuous improvement of clinical education experiences.


Simulation Education Leadership

  • Develop, oversee, and implement simulation-based learning activities aligned with program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain simulation lab environments, equipment, and procedural training resources.
  • Facilitate high-fidelity simulations, task-trainer sessions, and skills labs.
  • Integrate simulation into didactic and clinical curriculum through collaboration with faculty.
  • Evaluate simulation scenarios, educational effectiveness, and student performance.


Teaching & Instruction

  • Participate in the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of the Program’s curriculum. 
  • Advise and support students on academic, curricular, and career matters, including holding office hours, responding promptly to student questions, and guiding individual and group study and practice.
  • Participate in faculty development activities; maintain proficiency in the discipline and awareness of emerging developments in the field through scholarly or professional engagement, as appropriate
  • Develop, review, and update course materials, syllabi, assessments, and learning activities.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on academic and clinical performance.


Program Administration

  • Participate in admissions processes, including student interviews and selection.
  • Assist Program Director with program reviews and program assessment. 
  • Support ongoing curriculum mapping and ensure alignment with ARC-AA standards.
  • Support program accreditation activities, including data collection, documentation, reporting, and participation in site visits.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including clinical hours, case tracking, and simulation documentation.
  • Support continuous quality improvement and strategic planning.
  • Serve on program and college committees, as assigned.
  • Maintain all professional certifications, licenses, and continuing education requirements as applicable to the faculty member’s discipline.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited program in an Anesthesiologist Assistant, master's degree, or higher.
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience in anesthesiology or a closely related field.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level.
Preferences:
  • Advanced degree in education, leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating clinical education or simulation.
  • Familiarity with the AA profession and ARC-AA standards.
  • Experience developing or managing clinical affiliations.

Work Schedule:
  • Typically, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm
  • May occasionally require evenings and weekends.
