Summary:
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for leading cost accounting and inventory management activities across two manufacturing plants while also supporting key general accounting functions. This role ensures accurate inventory valuation, robust standard costing, timely month end close, and reliable financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP. Leveraging deep manufacturing cost expertise, the Senior Cost Accountant enhances operational visibility, supports strategic decision making, and drives continuous improvement within the accounting function.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
- Lead cost accounting activities for two manufacturing plants, including inventory valuation, standard cost maintenance, cost roll ups, and cost of goods sold reporting.
- Analyze manufacturing variances and partner with plant leadership to understand drivers and recommend corrective actions.
- Oversee inventory accounting processes, including cycle count analysis, physical inventory support, scrap reporting, and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and procurement to evaluate production costs, identify cost saving opportunities, and improve financial visibility across manufacturing processes.
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Contribute to month end and quarter end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany eliminations, and accruals.
- Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly financial statements, providing clear insights into trends, variances, and operational performance.
- Own designated balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation within the ERP system.
- Support external audit activities by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations required for US GAAP compliance.
Process Improvement & Cross Functional Support
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls under the guidance of the Controller.
- Build strong cross functional relationships and serve as a trusted business partner, providing financial analysis and decision support to operations and leadership.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from senior finance leadership regarding financial results, cost trends, and special reporting needs.
- Support the Controller with ad hoc analysis, special projects, and transformation initiatives.
