Job Description

Position Overview

The Youth Advocate plays an essential role in supporting the LEAP Pinkerton Youth Development Program by engaging peers, promoting participation, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment. This temporary, part-time position assists with workshops, special events, youth recruitment, and administrative tasks, while serving as a role model for fellow youth. The Youth Advocate also represents the program in agency councils and contributes to ongoing program improvement and staff hiring processes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, assist with, and attend Youth Development Workshops and outdoor activities.
  • Advocate for the Youth Development Program and serve as a voice for youth participants.
  • Act as a positive role model for other youth in the program.
  • Recruit youth to attend and participate in workshops and events.
  • Participate in the hiring process for program staff when requested.
  • Create and maintain an up-to-date youth contact list.
  • Attend monthly Youth Government Council meetings for the site.
  • Attend monthly Youth Advisory Council meetings for the agency.
  • Participate in bi-weekly supervision sessions with the Youth Development Coordinator.
  • Assist with basic clerical tasks, including filing, preparing and mailing letters, flyers, and calendars.
  • Help distribute program documents such as Youth Development letters and flyers.
  • Follow agency program expectations (e.g., curfew, appointments, attendance).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Requirements

  • Must have completed a PYA within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be enrolled in and attending school.
  • Must comply with agency guidelines, including curfew and scheduled appointments.
  • Must have completed pre-vocational/WIP training or have prior work experience.
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage with youth and staff.
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties and organize materials.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to positive youth development.

 

Hourly Rate: $17.00 per hour
