Job Description

Are you passionate about renewable energy and ready to make a real impact? Our market-leading national energy team is seeking a corporate and commercial lawyer to join our Auckland office. We want a driven individual with experience in general contracting and commercial work, ideally with exposure to the energy sector. If you care about the future of energy in Aotearoa, we want to hear from you.

You’ll work directly with partner Lauren Curtayne in a specialist energy team that’s at the forefront of New Zealand’s energy transition. Lauren advises on major energy projects, commercial contracts, mergers & acquisitions, and regulatory matters. Her passion? Renewable energy in all its forms – wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, batteries, and emerging energy technology. Our multi-disciplinary team advises New Zealand and international companies across the entire sector, giving you exposure to upstream, midstream and downstream operations, traditional and renewables, suppliers and purchasers.

Depending on your experience, Lauren is looking for a solicitor or senior solicitor to work closely with her on high-profile projects alongside some of the largest energy players in New Zealand.

This isn’t just about interesting work (though there’s plenty of that). You’ll have genuine scope to build your practice, develop long-term client relationships, and advance your career. But you’ll also be working with a partner who understands that sustainable careers require sustainable working practices. As a mother of three daughters, Lauren champions flexible working and role-models what balance actually looks like.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 3+ years PQE
  • Strong academic background
  • Commercially astute and client focused
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Large law firm experience working on complex transactions – desired
  • Experience in the energy sector – desired. Interest in the energy sector – essential!

Why Chapman Tripp?

  • Top-tier clients and work
  • Flexible working style and supportive leadership
  • Inclusive culture and team
  • Ongoing learning and development
  • Formal mentoring programme
  • Comprehensive salary and benefits package including healthcare and annual wellbeing allowance
  • Groups and activities to suit your interests: sports, arts & culture, regular team and firm events for connection

We’re a collaborative workplace of smart, passionate and hardworking people, united by a commitment to excellence. As Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest legal partnership, we have the resources and structures in place for you to do your best work – and the people to support you along the way. Come and be part of something meaningful.
