DIRECTOR OF SALES



Job Description



Title: Director of Sales



Division: Hotel



Department: Sales



Reports to: General Manager



 



Job summary



The development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary advance bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the hotel.



 



The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below or though the exercise of sound, reasonable judgment and initiative in the performance of job responsibilities.



 



Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives.



 



Summary of essential job functions




  1. Direct the solicitation efforts of the sales staff through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, date, and space commitments for group room sales within the hotel

  2. Administer the staffing, training, and performance reviews for the Sales Department

  3. Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and Moody Gardens’ standards of performance are met

  4. Give guidelines and counsel staff towards improvement

  5. Compiles and directs the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include, but not limited to, the annual and monthly forecast, marketing budget, lead management system, booking report, and sales meeting minutes

  6. Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends, and relate information for development of new marketing strategies

  7. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets

  8. Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients

  9. Meet with and entertain clients

  10. Organize and attend scheduled Sales Department meetings, or any other related meetings

  11. Conduct an average of one or two property site inspections per day with potential customer

  12. Travel to industry-related trade shows in various destinations around the world

  13. Input and retrieve information from computer systems for file maintenance, correspondence, and preparation for forecasts and marketing budget

  14. Promptly answer the telephone using positive and clear English
