Job Description

 Miami Public Schools is accepting applications for a Special Education Resource Room Teacher for the 26-27 SY


Experience Preferred.  Appropriate OK certification required. 


 


TITLE: Special Education Teacher


 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate

  • An earned bachelor's degree with a major in education

  • Teaching experience as determined by the board

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.


Cannot be related to any currently seated board of education member within the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.


 


REPORTS TO: Special Education Director, Principal and/or Assistant Principal


 


JOB GOAL:


To help students move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Punctually meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.

  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.

  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Recognizes students' needs and refers, when appropriate, to school personnel who can best help.

  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.

  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.

  • Completes reports and other school related paperwork as required, by the time requested.

  • Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for required activities and duties.

  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers.

  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

  • Plans a program of study in cooperation with the administration that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

  • Creates an effective classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with these goals, establishes clear objectives and communicates these objectives to students.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.

  • Maintains reasonable emotional stability, physical health and personal appearance.


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


Employment considered annually in accordance with Oklahoma law. Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule.


 


EVALUATION:


Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Oklahoma law and the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
