Job Description
Full Time Intervention Specialist Grades 5-8 for the 2026-2027 School Year.

At Mercer County ESC, we believe that every child is capable of growth when they are met with empathy, patience, and the right tools. We are looking for an Intervention Specialist for our 5-8 classrooms who views behavior as communication and "struggle" as a starting point.

The Community Learning Center isn't a traditional school setting—it is a place of transformation. With small class sizes and a deeply collaborative team, we provide the space you need to teach and connect with at-risk students, ensuring they build the foundational skills necessary for a lifetime of independence. You won't just be teaching subjects; you’ll be helping young adults redefine their potential and navigate the path toward independence.

Essential Duties:
- Design and deliver instruction that honors each student’s current level while gently pushing them toward their potential
- Focus on critical 5-8 milestones, blending academic growth with executive functioning and self-advocacy skills that empower students to take ownership of their learning.
- Cultivate a classroom environment that prioritizes emotional safety, using trauma-informed practices to help students co-regulate and build resilience.
- Work side-by-side with a dedicated team of specialists, therapists, and families to create a seamless web of support around every student.
- Manage the IEP process with a focus on meaningful progress, ensuring that goals and data serve as a roadmap for the student’s success.

Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
- Licensure: Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist License
- Mindset: A deep commitment to the "whole-child" approach and a passion for helping middle school students find their path in a high-support, small-group setting.

Who You Are
- A Champion for Students: You have a natural disposition for working with at-risk learners and believe that building a relationship is the first step toward academic success.
- Patient & Adaptive: You understand that progress isn't always linear and you enjoy the challenge of "pivoting" your approach to find what clicks for a student.
- Growth-Minded: You believe that every student has a unique story and the capacity to grow, and you are dedicated to helping them overcome obstacles as they build a foundation for lifelong independence.
