Gallagher Specialty is seeking an experienced Operational Control & Governance Lead to play a pivotal role in strengthening our first line assurance framework and governance environment. This role is critical in ensuring Gallagher Specialty operates in line with internal policies, regulatory expectations, and best practice, while continuing to support commercial growth and business strategy.
You will act as a trusted business partner, embedding a strong three lines of defence model and fostering a culture of adherence, ethical behaviour and continuous improvement across the division.
Governance & Oversight
- Maintain a documented overview of governance arrangements across UK and International Gallagher Specialty businesses.
- Ensure appropriate Terms of Reference are in place for all formal governance forums.
Operational Control & Assurance
- Own and deliver the 1st Line Operational Control Plan in line with agreed schedules.
- Develop and maintain effective Quality Assurance processes to promote good customer outcomes and reduce errors and omissions.
- Coordinate internal, external and 2nd line audits, reporting findings to senior management and driving corrective actions.
Policies, Procedures & Documentation
- Develop, maintain and embed standard operating procedures aligned to Group and Global policies.
- Oversee the review, approval, execution and storage of contracts, customer documentation, clauses and wordings.
Delegated Authority & Supplier Oversight
- Ensure robust oversight of facilities including 1st and 3rd party Delegated Authorities and Lineslips.
- Maintain and periodically review Gallagher Specialty supplier arrangements.
Change, Integration & Continuous Improvement
- Support acquisitions and hive-ups, ensuring new or transitioning businesses are fully embedded into the Gallagher Specialty control environment.
- Identify and implement enhancements to processes and controls that support both compliance and commercial growth.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
- Communicate assurance activity plans and findings across the business.
- Provide regular reporting to governance meetings and senior leadership on control effectiveness, risk assessments and audit outcomes.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and manage the Operational Control Assurance & Governance team, including workload planning and people development.
- Work closely with Regulatory, Risk and Project Leads to ensure a joined-up, end-to-end control environment.
- Oversee training and awareness programmes across Gallagher Specialty.
- Strong knowledge of governance and assurance best practice, ideally within a Specialty insurance environment
- Solid understanding of general insurance products, operational practices, and regulatory frameworks
- Proven experience of risk management within insurance, broking or underwriting contexts
Experience & Skills
- Significant experience designing and operating first line assurance and Quality Assurance frameworks
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance risk and business growth
- Proven people management and development experience
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Highly organised, results-driven and self-aware
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working within a global, matrix-managed organisation with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality
