Job Description

Job Description: 


Brookline High School seeking an experienced, energetic, and collaborative teacher, who has experience in teaching Chemistry and Physics. This position is an anticipated open position at 1.0 FTE.


 


 


Duties include but are not limited to:



  • Teaching four classes (some combination of first year Chemistry and first year Physics) and a Tutorial class

  • Demonstrating appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction

  • Organizing and using a variety of effective teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technologies to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings

  • Continuously assessing student progress, providing students and parents with specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as needed

  • Providing opportunities for academic support and challenge

  • Keeping current in the fields of Chemistry/Physics and in innovative teaching strategies and learning research

  • Collaborating with colleagues to examine student data, planning curriculum, and ensuring appropriate learning experiences for all students

  • Establishing and maintaining a functional, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community

  • Adhering to the protocols of Chemical Hygiene Plan (chemical handling and waste management)

  • Attending Faculty and Department meetings

  • Fulfilling community duties and midyear/final/MCAS exam proctoring 


 


Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:



  • Well-developed understanding of Chemistry & Physics

  • An understanding of physical safety, chemical safety, and chemical waste protocols

  • Thorough knowledge of how diverse learners acquire/develop conceptual understanding of complex topics

  • Experienced in the pedagogy required to effectively help students achieve understanding

  • Excellent classroom management skills

  • Ability to reflect on personal learning through the analysis of one’s teaching practice, student learning data, and the teaching practices of others

  • Ability to be open to constructive critique from supervisors, administrators and colleagues

  • Ability to collaborate with all faculty

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Current Massachusetts DESE license in Chemistry 9-12 (see preferred qualifications)

  • SEI Endorsement


 


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Dual Massachusetts DESE licensure in Chemistry 9-12 and Physics 9-12

  • Master’s Degree

  • 2-3 years of experience in teaching Chemistry and Physics
