Job Description

Miami Public Schools is accepting applications for a Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) for the 2026-2027 school year.  


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


 



  • Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate.

  • Experience in education preferred.

  • Training in BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team)

  • Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple student needs simultaneously.

  • Experience facilitating virtual or blended learning environments preferred.


 


 


REPORTS TO:


Principal and/or Assistant Principal


 


JOB GOAL:


To provide behavioral, social-emotional, and academic support to elementary students through implementation of BIST strategies, helping students develop self-regulation skills and successfully reintegrate into the classroom environment.


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Implements BIST strategies with fidelity to support student behavior and emotional regulation.

  • Provides direct instruction and support to students exhibiting behavioral challenges.

  • Develops and maintains a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment.

  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to create behavior intervention plans and reintegration strategies.

  • Communicates regularly and effectively with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding student progress.

  • Facilitates virtual learning opportunities when appropriate for student needs.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of interventions, student progress, and communication logs.

  • Models patience, empathy, and consistency in all student interactions.

  • Assists in de-escalation of behavioral situations using approved district practices.

  • Participates in professional development related to behavior support and trauma-informed practices.

  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and collaborative team meetings.

  • Completes reports and other school-related paperwork in a timely manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by administration.


 


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


Salary and contract length to be established by the Board of Education.


 


EVALUATION:


Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
