Job Summary
The E&P Accountant will be responsible for monthly financial close activities, controls and technical accounting. They will ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, maintain accurate records, and improve processes for US Offshore drilling, completion and production activities.
They will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely, as business needs allow.
Responsibilities
- Preparing monthly journal entries to accrue lease operating expenses for operated and non-operated fields in the US Gulf of America in 2 company codes
- Preparing monthly journal entries to reallocate equity to a non-controlling interest (NCI)
- Preparing various schedules after month end close, including a reconciliation and basic financials for the NCI and a distribution adjustment calculation for the NCI
- Analyzing actual lease operating expenses compared to forecast, budget, prior period
- Partnering with business teams to understand the operations and ensure actuals and accruals properly reflect the operating activities
- Ensuring variances to planned performance and impacts appropriately analyzed, understood and communicated to relevant stakeholders
- Preparing Income Statement line-item variance explanations as necessary to support monthly financial close and internal reporting
- Reviewing AFEs for proper accounting classification
- Reviewing procurement contracts for leases and ASC 842 compliance
- Maintaining communications and line of sight with Logistics regarding material inventory write-downs
- Helping maintain a robust control environment across the Controller’s function
- Ensuring compliance of all tasks with relevant accounting standards and SOX controls
- Assisting with internal and external audits
- Other ad hoc analysis as required
Licenses/ Certifications
CPA or equivalent certification preferred
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in oil and gas accounting with offshore properties
- Advanced Excel and SAP knowledge
- Understanding of Sarbanes Oxley compliance documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organizations
- Commitment to continuous improvement and champion of change
- Ability to adjust and quickly recognize and solve problems
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
