About the Department

The Creative Economy Specialist plays a key role in advancing Renton’s Creative Economy by planning, delivering, and managing a variety of arts programs and events. This position fosters partnerships with local artists, arts organizations, and community groups to create inclusive, engaging experiences that highlight Renton’s cultural vibrancy. A successful candidate combines strong organizational skills, creativity, and a deep commitment to public art, while serving as a central point of coordination for artists, community partners, and City initiatives. They will support the event management and social media presence to advance the Creative Economy in Renton.


SUPERVISION: 
Reports to: Economic Development Manager
Supervises:None


 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Conceive, coordinate and produce events intended to attract a broad cross section of the community to city owned public spaces. 
  • Assist in the development of Renton’s creative economy through social media and other digital media platforms available through city channels.  
  • Support the organization of events, workshops, lectures, and community events, including logistical support and outreach. 
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate a variety of cultural, visual, performance and literary programs for residents and visitors, in partnership with community organizations.  
  • Serve as the primary logistical coordinator for arts programs and special events, including scheduling, permitting coordination, vendor communication, and day-of operations. 
  • Support artist calls, including drafting scopes, facilitating selection panels, coordinating agreements, and ensuring project deliverables are met.  
  • Assist with Renton Municipal Arts Commission operations by preparing meeting materials, coordinating projects, and ensuring alignment with City priorities and policies. 
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal staff, external partners, and community stakeholders to promote City initiatives and expand program reach. 
  • Assist with planning and executing City events in collaboration with staff, boards, and community partners. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as required. 
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors or recent graduate in Fine Arts (Music, Visual, or Performing) or a closely related field.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful passing of a required driving record check.
  • Successful passing of a required background check.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following represents the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job: 

  • Report to offsite locations to perform essential functions. 
  • Lift or move items weighing up to 35 pounds on occasion. 
  • Bending, stretching, and standing for extended periods. 
  • Communicate with City employees and residents. 
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions and occasionally work may be performed in an office environment. 
  • Noise level out in field is moderately loud and noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
